My terms and conditions are summarised below, but I will also send you a copy of my full binding terms and conditions in PDF format when I send my quotation. For my privacy and cookies policy, please click here.

Please contact me for a no-obligation quotation for your project, either by email to enquiries@corteneditorial.co.uk or using the contact page on this website. I will need to see at least a sample of your work before providing a price, and I will also need to know the size of the full project (in words).

My prices are based on a progressive scale.

For any projects that are under 5,000 words in size, I charge a flat rate per hour for the project for however long it takes (I will give you an estimate of this).

Any larger projects will be charged either per 1,000 words or as a fixed fee for the project. There are economies of scale that come into play with larger projects (e.g. it is easier to spot repeated errors later in a document, once I have become used to the author’s style), so my pricing structure reflects this.

I offer different rates for each of the following services:

  • Proofreading
  • Copy-editing, or combined copy-editing and proofreading
  • Document formatting (which may be alone, or combined with any of the above)

For projects that are quite fragmented in nature (e.g. marketing brochures or product labels), I will also charge a flat rate per hour for the project, regardless of size. This is because fragmented text often takes relatively longer to proofread/copy-edit than a project of a similar size that is not so broken up.

Whilst I am happy to accept projects of less than 1,000 words, please be aware that my minimum charge for any project is one hour’s work at the appropriate rate.

Please also note that, once I have started work on your project, if I find it requires more correction than initially expected (particularly if you provided a sample and the final document differs substantially from that sample), I reserve the right to renegotiate my fee at that point.

I am happy to undertake urgent projects that require a fast turnaround (where my current commitments allow), but I reserve the right to increase my fee to reflect this.
